The best gold ETF in India is the one that tracks gold closely, costs little to hold, and is large enough to trade without a wide gap. Nippon India Gold BeES, Tata Gold ETF, SBI Gold ETF, HDFC Gold ETF, ICICI Prudential Gold ETF, and Kotak Gold ETF are the names people compare. None of those labels, by itself, is the answer.
Start with the gold rate, then the ETF price
An Indian gold ETF is a claim on gold, traded on the NSE. Its price should follow the gold rate today, not a stock story. Check the MCX gold price when you want the exchange quote per 10 grams, and the gold ETF price page when you want the last traded price of each fund.
Last traded price is not the same as value. A fund can print a price above or below the gold it holds. That gap is the iNAV premium or discount. Makro calculates it on the logged-in ETF page. This article does not publish that gap or name a winner from it.
What you can compare from public facts
Expense ratio. The scheme document states the annual cost. A lower ratio keeps more of the gold move. Read it from the fund house, and do not assume last year's figure is still the one in force.
Size. A larger fund is usually easier to buy and sell. Nippon Gold BeES is the name most screens show first because it has been the liquid gold ETF for years. Tata, SBI, HDFC, ICICI, and Kotak are the other funds investors search. Liquidity still depends on the day, so look at the live price page rather than a static ranking.
What the fund holds. A gold ETF should hold physical gold or gold-related assets described in the scheme. A gold ETF fund of funds is a different product: it holds gold ETF units inside a mutual fund. That route is covered in Gold ETF vs gold ETF fund of funds.

Makro does not publish a "buy this symbol" order here. Expense ratio and size narrow the list. The premium or discount to iNAV is the remaining check, and it changes through the session. Sign in for that number. The earlier note on iNAV premium and discount explains the idea without replacing the live table.
